Calkins Creamery is the sister cheesemaking business of Highland Farm, a registered-Holstein cow dairy that has been in the Bryant family for five generations. Started in 1841 by Burton and Elizabeth Bryant, Highland Farm was passed down through the generations; cheesemaker Emily Bryant was raised there. Emily studied food science at Penn State University as an undergraduate, and her husband Jay worked for a large ice cream manufacturer before they were both lured back to Wayne County, Pennsylvania by the promise of reviving and sustaining the family farm, and raising their own family there.
