Shipping Policy
Depending on the destination of your shipment you’ll be offered Ground or Express shipping at checkout. Cheese is a perishable product; our shipping rates and operations are designed to get you your cheese within one to two days of being shipped from us. We can ship via UPS Ground to the following states: CT, DE, Washington DC, MD, MA, NJ, NY and RI. Shipments going to all other states must be sent via Express services.
Ground (CT, DE, Washington DC, MD, MA, NJ, NY and RI only)
- Shipments over $100 ship FREE
- Orders under $100 ship for a live rate.
Express (FedEx Standard/Priority Overnight, UPS Next Day Air)
- Shipments over $100 are eligible to ship for a flat rate of $40 OR a live rate
- Orders under $100 ship for a live rate which will be displayed at checkout
At this time, we are unable to offer replacements or refunds for packages shipped via FedEx. Please keep this in mind when making your shipping selection.
How are your cheeses shipped?
Saxelby Cheesemongers ships all packages with insulated liners and ice packs to ensure that your cheese stays cool in transit. If your cheese is briefly above refrigeration temperatures don’t be alarmed! Aged cheese ages for weeks/months/years at cave temperature, around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Exceptions to this are fresh cheeses like ricotta and burrata.
We ship all packages with Signature Release, so your package will be left at your door if you are not available to receive it. Because cheese is a perishable item, we advise making sure someone will be available to receive the shipment.
Monthly Clubs - shipping is included in the purchase price, with a $10 surcharge for shipping from Brooklyn to certain Western states (CA, WA, OR, ID, NV, NM, AZ, MT, WY, CO, UT, HI, and AK).
Once I’ve placed an order, when can I expect to receive my cheese?
During the checkout process you are required to select a delivery date. The delivery date that you select will also appear in your order confirmation email in case you forget!
How should my cheese look and smell upon arrival?
Cheese is a living product, and depending on the variety, cheeses have a wide range of textures, flavors, and aromas. It is not atypical for your package to have a strong smell upon arrival. This smell should dissipate slowly once the package has been opened. Cheese produces ammonia as a byproduct during aging, and even a short trip in a confined space can amplify that (and other!) aromas.
More often than not when regards smell, the bark is worse than the bite! Just because a cheese smells strong does not always mean that it will taste strong. Let your taste buds be your guide - try a bit and see what you think!
What is your return policy?
If you are not satisfied with your order, we will do our best to replace or refund your order. Please contact us via phone at 718-260-8660 or email at customerservice@saxelbycheese.com and we will be happy to assist you.
At this time, we are unable to offer replacements or refunds for packages shipped via FedEx. Please keep this in mind when making your shipping selection.
Please double check to make sure all addresses are correct. We cannot assume responsibility for incorrect addresses. We cannot ship to PO Boxes.
We are not responsible for damaged or spoiled product due to the following:
- Incorrect delivery addresses
- Unopened shipments
- Gifts to recipients who are out of town or unable to receive shipments
- In the event of a delayed shipment due to inclement weather, mechanical failures, or other "Acts of God," we will do our best to work with our shipping partners to replace any product damaged as a result of a delayed shipment but cannot guarantee results.
Can I ship cheese to multiple addresses on one order?
