Ladies (of the cow, goat, and sheep variety, that is) quite literally run the world of cheese, but our Leading Ladies collection honors the other ladies (human ones) that have made the American artisan cheese movement possible! This showcase features the best of the best women cheesemakers by way of their most notable products. In the 1970’s and 80’s, women goat cheese makers pioneered the American artisan cheese revolution. Fast forward a few years and we still have amazing women-made goat cheeses, but they now have tons of others standing by their side. Collection includes:
Swallow Tail Tomme - Cheesemaker Melanie Webb meticulously crafts these lactic, buttery, organic tommes on her farm in Vermont.
Marieke Premium Gouda - Marieke Penterman and her family relocated from the Netherlands to the nether regions of northern Wisconsin to pursue their cheesemaking dreams. Her Premium Gouda is caramelly, grassy, and perfectly crystalline.
St. Germain - Veronica Pedraza's rustic goat's milk tomme is bright and delicate. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan in southeastern Wisconsin, she is known for transforming the milk of her herd into a stunning array of goat’s milk cheeses.
Boucher Blue - We're thankful that Dawn Boucher started making blue cheese in 1998, because now we have this balanced, fudgy, peppery treat!
Mini Kunik - One of our top selling cheeses! A triple-creme blend of goat’s milk and cow cream made by Sheila Flanagan and Lorraine Lambiase at Nettle Meadow Farm.
